Having lived in the area for most of my 58 short years, I am finally
persuaded that the current political arrangement does not adequately
reflect the strength of the environmental movement locally and nationally.
The current political representation is, it appears, slewed in favour
of the status quo, which tends to put commerce and development before
the wishes of local people and their increasing concerns for the environment.
I believe the Green Party can offer local people a real choice in this
debate. I attended local schools and, as a teacher, taught in North Devon
before making a career change to manage an expanding TV rental company.
In 1995, I opened my own retail business in Barnstaple and enjoyed eleven
years’ successful trading. Meanwhile I maintained close connections
with education as the education representative for the Chamber of Commerce
and as Governor at Park School. I now work again in the Education Department
for Children and Young People’s Services.
The Green Party are fielding over 1,400 local candidates all across
England in this May's local elections. We currently have 93 councillors
at District level or above, and expect to gain many more seats this year.
