Your Green Party Candidate for North Devon District Council, Braunton
East Ward
Liz Wood
Born in Braunton into an old North Devon family, the grand-daughter
to Jack Tucker, the colt-breaker. Left Devon at the age of five, following
the death of my mother but always wanted to come home, have been back
in Braunton for 29 years. Married, 3 daughters and 6 grand-children,
I have a degree in Modern Languages, an Arts degree and a teacher’s
certificate. I am now retired, having worked in a shop, hotel and
factory and been a full-time housewife, full-time and part-time teacher
and casual librarian. I have been concerned about the environment since
1969, joined the Ecology (now Green) Party around 1980 and, in 1976,
helped Jonathan Tyler, the first Green Parliamentary candidate with his
campaign. Apart from the environment, my main concerns are the democratic
deficit, the undermining and underfunding of the National Health Service,
education and the urgent need to address affordable housing, the care
of the elderly and public transport.
The Green Party are fielding over 1,400 local candidates all across
England in this May's local elections. We currently have 93 councillors
at District level or above, and expect to gain many more seats this year.
