Matthew KnightMatt Knight

With my wife and four children of school age, I run an Organic farm near Chulmleigh. For much of the last ten years I have been closely involved with the community through our local schools and events.

Likes: surfing, camping, all ball sports,  having fun with the children.

Dislikes: war, human suffering, environmental destruction, bigotry,  the BNP.

Education: Agricultural college in Devon, BSc. Hons. degree in Rural Development, University of East Anglia. Employment: cook, farm labourer, postman, conservation worker, bartender, night club manager, ship’s mate on a square rigger, builder, timber merchant, researcher, farmer.

I believe there is a pressing need for rural communities to represent themselves better, in a political system dominated by urban interests. My aim, if elected, would be to force planners to address the prospect of climate change by promoting local energy saving projects; and by supporting renewable energy schemes, especially those owned and developed within the local community.

The Green Party are fielding over 1,400 local candidates all across England in this May's local elections. We currently have 93 councillors at District level or above, and expect to gain many more seats this year.
