It is time to get very serious about the environment.
As a Green councillor I would continue to support school and community
initiatives to fight global warming, press for carbon budgets to check
the environmental effects of council spending, urge more grants for domestic
alternative energy systems such as solar power, and support a zero waste
strategy and traffic reduction measures.
I would back affordable, energy-efficient housing for local
people and urge more local employment, based when possible on energy-
saving products and on repair work to reduce dependence on new
resources.
I would support sustainable communities by opposing disposal of community
facilities and fighting for the Post Office and Fire Station in Appledore.
I would support more local youth provision, through, say, upgrading facilities
at Anchor Park and funding youth shelters, and I would fight to protect
Northam Burrows and the rural gaps between Northam and Appledore .
The Green Party are fielding over 1,400 local candidates all across
England in this May's local elections. We currently have 93 councillors
at District level or above, and expect to gain many more seats this year.
